£1,400 raised for local children’s charity

At the 24 May Breckland Council meeting, outgoing Chairman Nigel Wilkin presented Danielle Gravestock from East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) with a cheque for £1,400.

The majority of the cash was raised by pedal power earlier this month when Mr Wilkin and Council Leader William Nunn embarked on a marathon tandem bike ride, calling at every town in the district. Following an 8am start on 5 May from Thetford Guildhall, the pair was welcomed by Town Mayors and Deputies on their way, and completed their journey as they arrived at Dereham Memorial Hall at 4pm. The remaining funds were collected by a cake bake and quiz organised by Breckland staff, and other donations.

Mr Wilkin said: ‘EACH does amazing work supporting children and their families at a very difficult time. It has been a privilege to help raise funds for this great local charity in my year as Breckland Chairman”.

Danielle Gravestock from EACH said: “On behalf of the charity and of the many children and families that we support I would like to thank Nigel and William for taking on this superb challenge for us. It is thanks to donations like this that we are able to continue providing care and support for life-threatened children and their families across East Anglia”.

Mr Wilkin was appointed as Breckland Council Chairman on 12 May 2011, and handed over the chain of office to the new Chairman Robin Goreham yesterday
